Lavenham
It is perhaps a cliché to say that the Suffolk countryside is pretty as a picture, but on a short break in Suffolk, you'll soon discover this is literally true!

The artist John Constable was inspired by the Suffolk landscape, and from your hotel in Suffolk you can explore Constable Country around the Stour Valley and Dedham Vale. You can also visit the Sudbury home of the great English portrait painter Thomas Gainsborough, where several of his works are on display.

The market town of Bury St Edmunds has won several awards for its summer floral displays, and its back streets and abbey ruins look lovely whenever you visit Suffolk. It's worth booking a Bury St Edmunds guest-house or hotel just to visit the Theatre Royal, a recently-restored Georgian theatre presenting great shows all year round.
A must on any visit to Suffolk is a walk along the unspoiled coastline, and there are plenty of traditional seaside Suffolk guest houses to stay at. For Edwardian grandeur visit Felixstowe, for old world charm head for the virtual island town of Southwold, or shop for the famous porcelain in England's most easterly town, Lowestoft. Music lover should book their hotel in Aldeburgh well in advance for the famous music festival, established by composer Benjamin Britten.
For those who love a flutter on the horses, a visit to Newmarket, home of English flat racing is an absolute must, but for those who prefer things at a slower pace, a wander through the medieval streets from your Ipswich hotel is a delight. Whatever you do, don't rush in Suffolk, it's too good to hurry!
